Ja Nee

A VIDEO WORK BASED ON VOCALS OF 65+ MEN (2019)

“Ja Nee” is a work as a research on my granddad’s absent voice by collecting different voices from various men of his age. To cut out the words without context, such as “Ja” (Yes), “Nee” (No), “OH” and “UH”, the words are reduced from its meaning. These words only lead to a more present voice act.

The collection of fragments turned into a short film of 1.16 minutes. The video shows these fragments of the elder men talking, focussing on nothing else but the lips moving. However, the chosen fragments of eighty men could potentially match my granddad’s character, I found it hard to pick one voice specifically that truly resembles his character.
